The customer needed covered storage for lake gear right on the water. The only workable spot was an existing deck at the lake. Access was limited, so every board and panel had to be carried down a steep, windy path to the site. We built an 8x12 mini gable boathouse on that deck. The structure was bolted down so it stays secure. Metal siding and metal roofing were installed over the gable frame after the materials reached the water. Metal siding and metal roofing handle North Idaho lake weather well. They shed rain and snow and stand up to moisture better than many wood exteriors. The materials also need little upkeep through wet seasons. A single door keeps access simple for daily trips to the water. Yes. When the deck is sound, the shed can be framed on top of it and bolted down. This keeps the building stable without a separate foundation. The deck then serves as both floor and platform.
